A story by Information Week, SMB’s Spending on IT, Not New IT Hires, suggests a possible shift in IT spending for small and medium business. Although it is too early to tell if the latest Spiceworks’ “The State of SMB IT” report signals a trend or not, the Information Week story explains the beneficial impact of new technologies on the IT budgets of SMB’s. With the ability to outsource more functions that have traditionally required in-house IT staff, small and medium businesses are able to invest more of their IT dollars in equipment and software. Essentially, this means that SMB’s get more bang for their buck. The article states, “Cloud, virtualization, mobility and other areas are enabling them to build an IT infrastructure that looks a whole lot like their larger brethren, just without the corresponding staff to support it.”
